Umutuzo is the Kinyarwanda word for serenity—an inner quiet.
This work marks the genesis of my digital archive. In this experiment, I began intertwining the human figure with repetitive patterns to shift the geography of my subject. By placing her inside a digital ecosystem, I explore what it means to settle within an unfixed landscape—both physical and mental.
The repeating “seed” of the pattern is a stick figure, an homage to the first way we ever learn to draw a person. Through repetition, this simple form becomes a rhythm, suggesting that identity can dissolve, scatter, and reform within (patterned) space.
In this way, this piece becomes an attempt to locate umutuzo inside movement—to settle, even softly, within a geography that is constantly shifting.
Limited edition print on archival fine art paper. Hand-signed and numbered by the artist with a certificate of Authenticity. Unframed and ships flat. All sales are final.
