Stella Ituze
(b. Rwanda) is a Vancouver-based artist and storyteller whose work spans across different mediums to explore questions of identity, perception and belonging.
Rejecting the idea of being bound to a single medium, Stella selects materials based on what best serves the story at hand. Her practice often blends oil and acrylic painting with digital patterning and collage, allowing physical and digital processes to (co)exist in conversation. Drawing inspiration from her lived experience, environment, and community, her work remains deeply personal while engaging broader social narratives.
Her recent work is characterized by the strategic use of patterns as reflections of memory, cultural influence, and internal emotional states. By positioning her subjects (often real individuals or herself) within these textured environments, Ituze creates a silent dialogue between the viewer and the subject, inviting a deeper reflection on how we see ourselves and one another.
